We cannot lose sight of the fact that all of this exploration of the U.S. healthcare system is because it impacts every single man, woman, and child who lives here. The end result of healthcare must be quality, affordable, accessible care for everyone. But what is quality healthcare? What determinants of health impact people? How does healthcare meet the need to address diversity, equity, and inclusion?
One of the most important sites to address everything from social determinants of health (SDoH) to quality outcomes that are currently being provided for citizens is HealthyPeople. Updated every decade since 1990, the current site is examining 2020-2030. Any initiative to improve healthcare should include the data produced by this site and specific action plans being taken by cities from coast to coast. HealthyPeople.gov
Those with Advanced degrees will have insurance coverage 96.2% of the time. Those without a high school diploma or GED will have health insurance 67% of the time. This is called a disparity (difference between populations) and is clearly an unequal difference. In other words, the poor have a much higher rate of being uninsured. And since the uninsured do not have the advantage of having the discounts given to insurers it means the poorest pay the most for the bits of healthcare they do receive.
Use the HealthyPeople site to support calls to action for improvement
Include the following aspects in the discussion:

- Summarize what the data means to you.
- How does what you have learned about the U.S. healthcare system lead to the data shown?
- Discuss what changes need to be made, given the current structure of the healthcare system, to address the issues shown in the data.
