P1168 Research Proposal (2025-26 Sem 1)  Assessment brief: Students are required to submit a research proposal as part of the module assessment. Your research proposal will detail the central issues or questions you plan to investigate. It will identify your field of study and should demonstrate an understanding of the current state of knowledge and relevant debates within the field. The proposal needs to show what is new or unique about the planned research and provide a detailed guide as to how you will complete the work within the time specified. Your research proposal must also address the ethical considerations relevant to your study and include a reflective statement on the experience of conducting the research.

Your proposal will be a maximum of 4,000 words (+/- 10%) (3,600 – 4,400 words)

Submission Date: Thursday 18 December 2025 by 2 pm via Turnitin 

A Brief Research Proposal Structure  1.Title The title should simply and concisely summarise the research question. It should reflect the concepts and variables in your research question.

2.Background

This section has three related functions

  1. Introduce the reader to the research issue or problems.
  2. Provide a rationale for your overarching research question and aim.
  3. Ground your research in the academic literature.

3.Overarching Research Questions, research aim and research objectives or investigative questions

The background section should lead logically into a statement of your research question(s) research aim and usually either objectives or investigative questions. These should leave the reader in no doubt about what your research seeks to achieve. Be careful here to ensure that your objectives are precisely written and will lead to observable outcomes.

4.Method

The method section will explain how you will undertake your research.

Subsections could include research methodology, design, participants, techniques and procedures and ethical considerations.

5.Timescale/ Resources

It is helpful to outline a timeframe for your research and what resources you will need to undertake it. How long and how much?

6.References

Brief reference list or the sources used.
