Objective

In this assignment, you will examine and apply storytelling to motion content. You will create a storyboard for a 30-second commercial based on a professional brand. This is a big project that requires a lot of conceptual work — don’t wait until the last minute to begin this assignment!

By the end of this assignment, you should be able to:

  • Apply motion design principles to aesthetic solutions for a commercial brief.
  • Create a clear and coherent professional commercial storyboard.

Instructions

Congratulations! This is your biggest and final project for the week. Great job! You’ve come a really long way in a short period of time and are well on your way to becoming excellent media communications professionals. For this assignment, you will be creating an 8-panel storyboard for a 30-second commercial.

1. Download your script:

  • Samsung_CommercialScript_4.5.p… .pdf348 KB

2. Download your commercial brief:

  • Samsung_Brief_4.5.pdf310 KB

4. If you wish to include the Samsung Diamond logo, download the zipped PNGs below:

  • SamsungDiamond_Logos.zip34 KB

5. You will be using a pencil and paper for this assignment. If you would like to use a printed storyboard template, you can download it here.

6. Your storyboard must:

  • Be 8 panels long
  • Follow the provided script for dialog and plot
  • Use motion content principles to tell the story

7. Draw out your storyboard panels on pencil and paper. You may:

  • Draw your motion symbols directly onto your storyboard panels using a pencil
  • Apply the motion symbols from this zip file to the storyboards you place in your PowerPoint:
  • MotionIcons_4.4.zip45 KB

8. Take photos of your storyboard sketches, scan them in, and place them in a PowerPoint document.

9. If you are using the motion symbols from the provided zip file, place them on your storyboard panels where you intend to indicate motion.

10. Write any dialog from the script beneath each storyboard frame as the dialog occurs during your commercial.

11. Save your file with the naming convention: FirstNameLastName_30SecCommercial4.4.pptx and upload your file to the completion field below

TIP: Your storyboards may illustrate an animated commercial, a commercial with live actors, or a combination of both. Pay extra attention to how you can use aesthetic principles and fundamentals to frame your shots and tell your story.**
