“The Board of a financial institution – a traditional bank, or a venture capital fund – is challenged by the advent of fintech.
The Chairman has asked the Board to present several strategic options. As a freshly hired fintech analyst, your remit is to bring your (i) favourite fintech domain/ technology or (ii) a specific fintech
segment deals, or market opportunity, to the Board attention.
Extra points will be given for presenting succinctly a small set of the readily available, actionable
opportunities that Board can easily compare.
You will select the focus, include the market analysis, follow any strategy methodology and deliver a
formal 2000 words long report to the Board”.

Brief in 250 words
Your essay should be considered as a case study of a single aspect of an emerging Fintech technology
(e.g., an investment theme like the digital identity wallets, automated financial planning, privacy
enhancement technologies, etc.) or a business opportunity (e.g., inclusive and/or impact finance, a
subset of Fintech partnerships supporting the digital transformation in a particular sector, embedded
finance, a new cross-border or international market, etc.) that can be financed by the Board
(representing either an early stage venture capital fund committee, or an internal venture corporate
fund).
Your essay should demonstrate understanding of a Fintech domain and your preferred Fintech
segment: for example, a comparison of a small group of similar, innovative, commercially ready and
possibly investable Fintech ventures.
Alternatively, you could advocate for a particular emerging Fintech technology or software
component: for example, the streaming service micropayments, the electric vehicle embedded
finance, direct indexing in the robo-investment or a stablecoin pegged to a basket of currencies etc.
You may decide to view this Essay as an opportunity for
(i) Your independent research, enabling you to pursue an alternative Fintech topic that you
feel passionate about, possibly as an early stage of your Dissertation or
(ii) as an opportunity to substantially expand your Group’s Assignment #1 investment case
analysis into an in-depth review of a particular Fintech domain
Charts, diagrams and tables (at least one table tabulating your Fintech venture by KPIs of your
choice) should help in organizing your thinking, data and communicating your recommendation
