THE MELTING POT

THE CROSS-CULTURAL MODEL

MELTING POT

Various cultural groups surrender their ethnic heritage within the span of a few generations after arrival on the US, assimilating with the dominant culture, adopting its values and forms of behavior, and while contributing to the overall cultural blend, no longer remaining distinct from it.

CROSS CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

There are real and fundamental differences in values, role concepts, behavioral patterns, forms of expression, and cognitive styles that must be acknowledged before effective understanding can occur.

Concept of time

Self-perceptions

Family relations

Work and Professional life

Etc.

MENTAL HEALTH

FACT: Mental health problems of ethnic minorities require new paradigms to be developed.
