Topic Overview Statement- Give some thought to a brief (5-7 sentence) statement that reflects your own personal views about the sociological social forces you believe play a significant role in explaining this social problem/issue both in the U.S. and the other country of global region (other than the U.S.). See sample Overview Statement in this Module. NOTE: This will be incorporated later in your paper so it is important to give it some thought and be sure it is done correctly.

For example: If you are writing about domestic violence find an article that is based on researching domestic violence prevalence and explanations in another country (i.e. Portugal, India, United Kingdom)
Introduction– Briefly describe the social problem/issue chosen with available statistics and discuss why you chose this topic. In your introduction, be sure to include a personal topic overview statement that you put together in Step 2 above which addresses sociological social factors that YOU believe contribute to the social problem/issue in both the U.S. and the other specific country or region of the world that you chose. It is important that this topic statement reflects your views held PRIOR to consulting your article resources. Please use “I” or “My” in this section to make your topic statement clear. Section length – 1/2 to 1 page.
Research Summary–Compare and contrast the social problem/issue between the U.S. and other region of the world as revealed in the journal articles. Be sure to cite properly in the text of your paper (aka: in-text citations) using proper MLA or APA formatting. Section length 1 to 1.5 pages.
Problem Solving – In your own words, expand on whether or not you believe this problem could be prevented, or at the very least controlled and managed better in the future. In this section explain if you believe a solution to this problem would be easier in the U.S. or in the country/global region chosen for your second article and why/why not. Section length appx. 1 to 1.5 pages
Reflection/Conclusion – Discuss how your views on the topic PRIOR to doing the research were impacted by your review of the article(s). You are not being graded on the validity of your opinion, but on how this information added to your conventional knowledge. Consider the question: what surprised you the most in your reading(s)? Please use “I” or “My” in this section to make your personal reflection clear. Section length 1/2 to 1 page.
Bibliography– Also known as “Works Cited” or “References” page attached to paper in MLA or APA format.

Please use APA of MLA formatting. For this level course my primary concern is that you are using in-text citations in your paper to avoid plagiarism, and that you have a properly formatted bibliography/works cited page and have uploaded the articles into the assignment space in CANVAS. Do not worry about page numbering, titles, or a cover page.
