Textbook: Wood, J. (2016). Communication Mosaics: An Introduction to the Field of Communication (8th edition). Boston: Cengage Learning

In this mini-essay, you will respond to a very complicated question: What is your culture? To do so, you will need to utilize concepts gleaned from Chapter 8 in the textbook. You are also encouraged to cite external resources or information from previous chapters if you find it applicable.

It is, of course, important to remember that we do not only belong to one singular culture. At any given moment, we are a part of multiple different social communities. In this mini-essay, you may either delve deeply into a single culture with which you identify or, alternatively, delve into 2-3 different ones.

In answering this question, you must include the following components:

1. At least 2 in-text citations & a works cited/reference page (MLA or APA)

2. A thesis statement at the end of the first paragraph that explicitly answers the question: What is your culture?

3. The use of at least 3 representative personal examples that demonstrate communicative norms in your culture and/or social community (these can be verbal and/or nonverbal).

        1. Example: If you identify as a “Gamer”, you might invoke in-group gamer speak such as “n00b” or “pwned.”

4. The use of at least 3 new course vocabulary concepts and/or words from Module 4 that are (1) properly defined and (2) properly utilizedto explain how you communicate within your culture.

    1. Example: . Provisionalism is the usage of tentative language to indicate that you’re open to other perspectives.
